Chavela — Financing an Important Mexican Documentary
Sometimes we participate in transactions not because they are profitable or large but because we believe in the mission. NYBAY helped Aubin Pictures secure proprietary footage from Televisa and TV Azteca and finance the production of an award-winning documentary about Chavela Vargas.
The Challenge
Aubin Pictures, a New York based producer of award-winning documentaries run by filmmaker Catherine Gund, requested our help in securing proprietary footage held by two of our largest Mexican clients: Televisa and TV Azteca. Catherine was filming a documentary based on the life of Chavela Vargas, a celebrated and very original Central American singer who built most of her career in Mexico, who had recently passed away.
Our Approach
NYBAY not only secured most of the desired footage, but obtained it at no cost to Aubin, and, moreover, also helped finance the production costs.
Results
- The documentary was a success and received several international awards.
- It can be seen online via Netflix, Prime and other digital platforms, with its soundtrack on Spotify.
