The Rivero González Family — A Diversified Family Business Also Prospering with New Ventures via M&A
A three-decade relationship with the Rivero González Family, spanning corporate finance for Bolsa-listed Minera Autlán and the cross-border acquisition of the largest vineyard in the North Fork of Long Island, today known as RGNY.
The Challenge
Julio Marquez met Jose Antonio Rivero-Larrea in the 1990s when Mr. Rivero purchased Minera Autlan in a privatization from the Mexican Government. Ever since, Mexican Bolsa-listed Autlan, with annual sales of close to US$500 million, has developed its leadership status as one of the world's leading miners and refiners of manganese and expanded into precious metals. The Family also owns a renowned wine-making business in Mexico, Bodegas Rivero Gonzalez, and a few years ago it decided to expand with a strategic acquisition in the USA.
Our Approach
Not only has NYBAY assisted Autlan with its corporate finance matters since our founding, but we brought our expertise to bear in a transaction with the clients that had nothing to do with mining. NYBAY was mandated to identify a vineyard in the US that could accommodate expansion of the Rivero Gonzalez brand, and we found Martha Clara Vineyards, then owned by the Entenmann Family. NYBAY negotiated the pricing and financing of that transaction.
Results
- Acquisition of Martha Clara Vineyards, the largest vineyard in the North Fork of Long Island.
- Pricing and financing of the transaction negotiated by NYBAY.
- Renamed RGNY (www.rgnywine.com), it thrives today as an innovator and proud representative of Mexican wines in the U.S. Northeast.
